The Monkeys Profiles

The Monkeys play a collection of covers from the 1960s to the present day, taking in The Beatles, Bowie, T Rex, The Who, Blondie, The Chilli Peppers, Scissor Sisters and many more. They have a highly energetic show and aim to play songs less often covered by more conventional covers bands.

Graham – Drums, vocal
Graham has been drumming on-and-off for 35years. Playing in numerous bands performing a range of music from rock-n-roll, country and chart covers, to writing and recording original material. In the early 70’s he formed a band called ‘Oasis’ (while the Gallagher brothers were still in short trousers). Graham is a fan of the British rock scene of the 70s and cites John Bonham and Ian Paice amongst his influences.

Drums: Mapex Pro M Series (Maple)
Cymbals: Paiste
Sticks: Vick Firth

Musical influences:
Status Quo

Richard – Bass, vocals
Richard started playing bass live at the age of 17. He played in restaurants, country clubs and nightclubs around London and Essex playing many styles from dinner music to ballroom, Latin American and pop, always using his trademark home-made bass. The band ended up as a resident band in a large hotel playing 3 times a week and backing a cabaret artist on the Saturday until they split in 1986. He formed a band 12 years ago with lead guitarists from "Bone Idle" and played the pub and workingmen’s club circuit around Southampton. The Monkeys were put together about 4 years ago for a one-off gig, but they proved such a success that they have progressed into a popular feature on the local circuit.

Personally built fretless bass through a Beringer 300 watt amp and a 4 x 10" cab.

Deep Purple
The Eagles
The Blockheads
Thin Lizzy

Neil – Guitar, vocals
Neil started his own band at school playing covers by Queen and Bowie, and has been in and out of groups ever since covering genres from hard rock, funk, experimental and punk. Neil was invited to play with underground Surrey-based band The Darck, shortly before their acrimonious split (just before they were due to support the Housemartins) and was briefly invited to join both spin-off bands. Neil is influenced by the rock and punk guitarists of the 70s, the soul and funk players of the 60s and 70s, and 90’s indie rock.

Customer Feedback
Surprise party at The Holiday Inn

Dear 'Alpha'… Just to say a big thanks for all your help with supplying entertainment for our event on Friday 7th April. Both the Magician and the Band were great - highly professional and both performed fantastically! The magician mixed well with the crowd and was a great surprise element. The band performed songs appropriate to the crowd and the atmosphere on the night and it really felt like they got involved with the people there, rather than just turning up and playing a standard set. Everybody got on the dance floor. Great! The whole evening was a great success, and I would have no problem recommending Alpha in the future. I'll soon be leaving Bupa, but I must say you have ensured I will go out on a high note! Many thanks again.
